Workflow
1 min read · Reviewed 17 Oct 2026
In short
The sequence of steps a piece of work actually goes through.
In plain English
The path from trigger to finished outcome, written down. Mapping it is the step people skip before automating, which is why so many automations fail.
A real example
Enquiry arrives → someone reads it → looks up the client → drafts a reply → a manager checks it → it is sent. Six steps, of which AI can genuinely help with one or two.
Why it matters
You cannot automate what you have not described. Writing the workflow down usually reveals both the step worth automating and the step that must stay human.
