Long-Tail Keyword
1 min read · Reviewed 17 Oct 2026
In short
A longer, more specific search phrase with fewer searches and clearer intent.
In plain English
A phrase of several words describing exactly what someone wants, rather than the broad term. Fewer people search it, and the ones who do are further along in deciding.
A real example
"Accountant" is a head term. "Accountant for sole traders in Leeds" is long tail — and far more likely to become a client.
Why it matters
Broad terms are usually unwinnable for a small business and would not convert if you won them. Specific ones are both reachable and worth reaching.
