Few-Shot Prompting
1 min read · Reviewed 17 Oct 2026
In short
Showing a model two or three examples of what you want.
In plain English
Instead of describing the output you want, you show it. Give two or three worked examples in the prompt and ask for more in the same style.
A real example
Describing your ideal case-study format takes a paragraph and still gets it wrong. Pasting two real case studies and saying "now write a third about this client" usually gets it right first time.
Why it matters
Examples carry information that description cannot — rhythm, length, structure, the things you would struggle to articulate. When a prompt is not working, adding an example beats adding adjectives.
