AI Agent

In short
A system that works towards a goal and takes actions for you.
In plain English
Most AI tools answer one question at a time. An agent is different: you give it a goal, and it decides the steps itself — searching, writing, calling other tools — and keeps going until the job is done or it gets stuck.
A real example
Ask a chatbot "what are my competitors charging?" and you get an answer from memory. Ask an agent the same thing and it will go and look: search the web, open the pricing pages, pull the numbers into a table, and hand you the summary.
Why it matters
Agents are where AI stops being a writing assistant and starts being a doer. That is useful — and it is also why you should watch what they do. An agent that can act on your behalf can also act wrongly on your behalf, so give them narrow goals and check the work.
