How a small IT support firm checks a confident AI answer before acting on it
Picture an IT support firm about to act on a confident AI answer about a client's backup settings. This shows how checking it first could become a routine rather than a mood.

Picture a two person IT support firm. One of them asks AI how a particular backup product handles retention, gets a clear, well-organised answer with specific settings named, and starts to act on it.
The answer is wrong in one detail. Not obviously wrong, not nonsense: one setting that behaves differently from how it was described. If it had gone unchecked, a client would have had a month of backups they thought they had and did not.
The thing worth noticing is that confidence and accuracy are unrelated here. The answer did not sound uncertain, because these systems do not sound uncertain. So "does this feel right" is not a check, and the firm needed an actual routine instead.
